Marina Hyde: Celebrities On Trial

Marina Hyde: Celebrities On Trial
7:30pm, Thursday 28th of August, Conway Hall London
An evening of scandal, spectacle and some serious questions.
From O.J. to Depp vs. Heard, Diddy’s baby oil to Blake & Baldoni text attacks - the celebrity trial has become its own genre, part soap opera, part social commentary, and very occasionally, justice.
Join award-winning columnist and host of The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Marina Hyde as we dive into the biggest and most bizarre celeb trials of recent decades and ask: Is this fair legal process or just entertainment?
We’ll explore the courtroom as a stage, where A-listers, lawyers, and the public all play their parts. Should we feel empathy or schadenfreude for the stars in the dock? Do cameras ever belong in court? What happens when lawyers become celebrities themselves? What about the judge and jury who ultimately make the decisions that launch a million commentary videos? Can a fair trial survive the algorithm? And what’s our role in all this, truth-seekers, armchair jurors, or unwitting victims of viral misinformation?
This is a topic desperately in need of a live, in-person deep dive and there couldn’t possibly be a better person to discuss this with than the brilliant Marina Hyde. Expect some gossip, some outrage and a healthy dose of cynicism. Justice may be blind, but you can bet we’re watching.
The talk will finish with an audience Q&A and then stick around for drinks and debriefing.
